Back to my "real" post.
On this Sunday Morning, I wanna share about the symbolic logic..
Are you ready ???
OK, Factually, in Introduction of Basic Mathematics, we learn about 2 subjects. These are Logic and Set. But in this post, I will just share a little of my knowledge about symbolic logic in order to make us know it more clearly.
Ok, Enjoy it....
First, did you know what a statement mean ?
- Statement is a declarative sentence which is a sentence that is capable of being true or false.
The following are examples of statements:- It is raining
- I've got a headache
- 3 + 2 = 5
- Are you tired?
- Close the window, please !
- $#$@*& ( replace with your favourite expletive)
- Variable is a symbols which is points to unspecific elements of the universe.
- Constant is a symbols which is points to specific element of the universe.
Example:
An Straight Line Equation is y = 4x + 5, Determine which is the variables or constant !
- Open sentence is a sentence with variables and if the variables were substituted with the constants in the universe, then we can determine whether it is a correct or wrong statement.
Generally, there are 5 kinds of symbolic logic; negation, disjunction, conjunction, implication, and biimplication.
- Negation of statement is a new statement which is true if the true value of the first statement is false and vice-versa.
- Disjunction corresponds roughly to the English "or". There are 2 types of disujunction:
- Inclusive Disjunction, A disjunction is false, if both of statements are false; otherwise, it is true.
- Exclusive Disjunction, A disjunction is false, if both of statements are true; otherwise, it is true.
- Conjunction corresponds roughly to the English "and'. A conjunction is true, if both of statements are true; otherwise, it is false.
- Implication ,or the conditional connective, corresponds to the expression if ________, then_____ . An implication d --> f is false, if the antecendent d is true and the consequential f is false; otherwise, it is true.
- Biimplication or biconditional is corresponds to the expression ______if and only if_______ . A Biconditional d <--> e is true, if both d and e have the same true value, true; otherwise, it is false.-->
